On Saturday September 19, the Upper Cumberland Diversity Advocates (UCDA) offered a colorful array of entertainers to outdoor audiences at the Annual Celebration of Cultures held on the Cumberland County Playhouse grounds. 

Also, children were treated to storytelling, arts and crafts, face painting, and the Art Circle Library’s Book Bus handed out free books to the young people.

     The Celebration showcased local talent and community engagement. Girl Scouts from Troops #120, #3187, and #420 kicked off the event by leading the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Julia Daniel told stories about growing up on the very farm in that her ancestors had farmed as enslaved people before the Civil War.    

     The performers included local favorites Regina Pullin singing her trade mark Intriguing Jazz; Rachel Love telling and singing about her Native American heritage; CCP T’3 Cloggers demonstrating the different style and origins of Appalachian clogging; the Southern Echo Family performing Native American drumming and dancing; Jesla Uribe and Kimberly Fuentes performed a beautiful traditional Mexican dance; the CCP T’3 Glee Singers showed off the  incredible musical talents of our local youth; and the Dulcimores performed traditional mountain music on their Appalachian dulcimers; and the Tennessee Tech Steel Drum Band provided a change of pace with their laid back Caribbean music.

     A good time was had by all.
