The Cumberland Homestead has played an important role in the history of the Upper Cumberland region for almost a hundred years. It was created during the Great Depression as part of President Roosevelt’s New Deal. Dr. Charles Tollett, a native of Cumberland County, was our August 14, 2025 speaker. He has researched and written extensively about the Cumberland Homestead. The presentation included both the history and importance of the Homestead but also some stories and photos from the early years.

We had a great turnout January 16th for our first speaker of 2025! Troy Smith is a Professor of History at TN Tech University and Author of A Liberal Dose. He engaged the audience with bits of history, personal experience and humor while discussing the challenges of advocating for diversity in Tennessee.
